Sometimes people are confused about whether to take private lessons or group lessons. The benefits of learning piano in a group are often under estimated. There are many situations where group lessons are the best option. If you are looking for piano lessons in San Antonio, Joy Academy of Music gives you lots of options to find the perfect music lesson for you. You can weigh, balance, and then decide on your own.
In private piano lessons, the social factor is missing from the scene. Students practice alone, play at lessons alone, and play recitals alone. There is so much more that can be learned while playing piano in a group. There are many activities that take place in group lessons which are impossible to incorporate in private lessons. Learning ensemble pieces can be done only in group classes. Group music classes are often more lively and exciting. Especially if you are a beginner, group lessons are a lot more fun! Private lessons are usually only best if you are self-motivated and want to learn something very specific, like jazz piano or improvisation for example. Motivation to learn is built in to group classes. The students tend to practice more since they do not want to lag behind other students. In private lessons, students progress at their own rate, which is usually slower than in a group. In group lessons, students progress at the rate of the fastest student. The students also learn the benefits of working as a team. It is also often less intimidating for students because the class works together and help each other to achieve their musical goals . Sometimes children and adults quit before they truly learn to play the piano. The need at such time is to help the beginner learn it the fun way. I have found that when students have fun, they WANT to practice. At Joy Academy of Music, kids and adults have fun learning. Sometimes the social element which comes from group classes is the missing link which helps students to have more fun. Think of sports. The reason most people enjoy sports is because of the feeling of comradery that comes from being a part of something larger than yourself, and working together to achieve a common goal. Many parents face the problem of their children being too shy to perform in front of other people. Learning in group lessons can help in a great way. When children learn along other students regularly this shyness and low confidence leaves them as they make progress. They no longer remain timid about playing out loud for people because they do it every week. Brimming with confidence, they learn they can perform in front of others and take pride in showing others what they can do, sharing their love of music. I truly believe music is a language and as such is meant to be communicated and shared. Group lessons help students to achieve this goal.

Here's a great show piece that is fun to play. When you take piano lessons, you always want to have a few pieces in your repertoire that you can pull out at a moment's notice to impress your friends! This is a great song by C.P.E. Bach called "Solfeggio". C.P.E. Bach was the most famous son of J.S. Bach, who had 20 kids! If you’re thinking that enrolling your child in piano lessons in San Antonio would not be worth it, or are having second thoughts as to whether you should continue your child’s piano lessons, then here are 5 reasons why you should consider keeping your child enrolled:
Develop Fine Motor Skills Playing the piano definitely builds up a child’s coordination and fine motor skills. Hand-eye as well as hand-to-hand and hand-to-foot coordination is practiced through piano lessons. Doing something different with each hand (and your feet!) at the same time uses both sides of the brain and builds and stimulates new neural pathways. Developing fine motor skills early in life can help with any physical activities you do the rest of your life, as well as stimulating brain activity and development. Increase Concentration These days kids have shorter and shorter attention spans because of over-stimulation by technology and the media (TV, laptops, smartphones, tablets, streaming media, etc). Distractions abound, and children have trouble focusing and sticking with one thing long enough to make any progress with it. Music is a productive escape that helps kids learn how to focus and make tangible forward progress in pursuing a goal. The longer you stick with it, the better you become and the fun increases exponentially as you are able to play cooler and cooler pieces. Once you pay your dues and learn to read music like reading a book, practice sessions cease to feel like work and just become jam sessions at home! Raises Self Esteem Life at school can be very challenging for kids! The peer pressure of trying to fit in and yet feel special, different or "cool" can be overwhelming. Anything that kids can do that helps them stand out from the herd or makes them feel special or talented is an emotional and social boon can give them wings and help them to soar. Music is a great skill to have because it is one they can share with their friends. Showing off a new piece, playing with a rock band , making a YouTube video or DVD they can share with friends and family on social media, helps kids to feel proud of their accomplishments and gives them a strong sense of belonging to something greater than themselves. Improves Academic Performance Another thing children’s piano lessons imbue on kids is a strict sense of discipline. Kids who play the piano understand that their playing won’t improve unless they study and practice everyday. As such they also understand that hard work must be put into something in order to reap benefits. Kids who take piano lessons also learn to think creatively and critically. All these are applied in school, giving kids taking piano lessons an edge. Scientific studies have proven that music helps with math skills, spacial relations, and many other whole brain skills that help kids academically. Allows Kids to be Well Rounded A child may study the piano for a short period of time. Some might stick with it and continue to make a career out of it. Regardless, those who took piano lessons are known to be more well rounded, especially in this day and age, as they tend to develop an appreciation for all types of music and art. The knowledge and skills they learn from the piano can also be easily transferred to another musical instrument. San Antonio's Premier Piano Lessons

Piano music, after all, is one of the most soothing sounds - listening to piano music can be a really good way to release your stress; playing beautiful piano music yourself is nothing short of blissful pleasure.
The difference between children and adults with regards to their outlook on piano lessons is that adults are actually more discouraged to play the piano than children. As they already have an idea of how a piano works and how it should be played, adults are more easily disheartened from even taking up adult piano lessons. On the other hand, adults learn to play faster, as adults have better focus and dedication to learning. If you’re an adult seeking out piano lessons yourself, read on for a few tips on how to get started and how to make the most of your piano lessons. Although it is possible to learn some of the basics of piano by yourself, it is exponentially easier and you will progress much faster by employing the services of an excellent San Antonio piano teacher. A good teacher is one that is passionate about the art, not just in it for the money. Make sure the teacher is experienced at giving adult piano lessons as well. You might also want to check out videos and other instructional guides to help you get started and to make the most of your lessons. Not only will these help you better understand how to approach each song and how to improve on your playing, it will also serve as your reference for your piano teacher’s lessons. Ask your teacher for any books or videos he may recommend and which ones he will be basing your lessons on. As with any other skill, the most important factor would be dedication and hard work, as practice remains the key to honing your piano playing. So make sure to dedicate at least half an hour each day outside of your regular lessons. In San Antonio, piano lessons are among the most popular programs parents enroll their children in. Many parents enroll their kids in lessons to cultivate the creative aspect of a child’s growth – particularly in music and the arts. Still others have dreams for their children to be successful pianists when they grow up and wish for them to start learning the instrument at an early age. However there are a lot of parents out there who are yet to be convinced whether to get their children into playing the piano and enrolling them in piano lessons. Here then are a few quick points on why piano lessons would be perfect for your child:
Developing Self Confidence Children who study the piano learn a valuable lesson in learning a new skill. In playing the piano and having to learn piano lessons, children begin to handle stress efficiently as part of the learning process. We are all very familiar with piano recitals which as we all know is a regular requirement when taking piano lessons. An excellent piano teacher will ensure that his students are ready to perform in front of an audience and this goes a long way in helping a child develop self confidence. Ability to Constructively Accept Feedback Any child who takes up piano lessons learns to accept feedback to improve his or her performance. In doing so, a child is also trained to accept feedback and constructive criticism not only with regards to his or her piano playing, but also with everything else he or she does in life. Being able to openly accept constructive criticism from a piano instructor would serve as a foundation for building a person’s character. Understanding the Value of Hard Work Anything worth doing requires hard work. Just as with any other skill, piano lessons require practice. As playing the piano becomes second nature to a student, they learn to understand that hard work, discipline, dedication, and consistency are skills that will help them to achieve any goal they want to pursue in life. Learning to play the piano may seem difficult at first, but continued practice and dedication to the scheduled piano lessons will definitely pay off. Of course, in the case of children studying the piano, parenting also plays a major factor. Parents should be able to stick with their children in their endeavors. This coupled with a great piano instructor will definitely make all those piano lessons worth it. Do you want the best San Antonio piano lessons? Small group lessons are much more exciting than private lessons. There are so many more fun educational games we can play. Playing in a small group is like playing in your own band, and the ensemble pieces we play sound much better than solo pieces, especially at the early levels. Small group lessons are also more motivating to students because they see the students around them progressing and are then more motivated to practice and progress themselves. Private lessons also are very helpful in learning rhythm, which is one of the hardest parts of music. They are more easily manageable and will give you an idea if this is something you want to pursue. Upper intermediate to advanced students can opt for our private lessons. Our instructors love music and are hear willing to help you learn every step of the way. Learning piano is a fun and exciting skill that you can enjoy for a lifetime. Thank you for your interest in piano lessons! I am a piano teacher with Joy Academy of Music. What sets me apart from other teachers is that I not only teach you note reading, rhythm, proper technique and all the other essentials, but I place the largest emphasis on what is most important: having fun! If you don't first have fun with music, you won't get very far because you'll quickly run out of steam and not want to practice. My unique approach incorporates the benefits of small group study with fun educational games, group activities and ensemble playing which helps with rhythm. After over 18 years of teaching full-time I have found that students progress quicker in a small group because it adds the social element missing from most lessons and you are motivated to succeed by the progress of the rest of the class. The other thing that sets my studio apart is the music. I am well versed in many styles of music and can help you succeed in almost any genre. I have a large collection of music that I teach, songs you can't get anywhere else because I transcribed, wrote, or arranged them myself! Almost any style of music, you name it, we have it or we can find it! Original compositions and arrangements, professional backing tracks that make simple songs sound awesome, jam sessions with professional performing musicians. And if you know a song you want to play but we can't find the music, we can even transcribe it for you--so it sounds just like the real thing! We teach fun at all ages--ADULTS TOO!
